Und wer sich an die amerikanische Rennlegende Carroll Shelby erinnert, der kann sich auch sofort vorstellen wie kompromisslos und puristisch der Shelby GT500 bereits im Serienzustand ist. Jetzt gebe man diese Fahrmaschine dem US-Car-Spezialisten Karl Geiger aus München in die Hände und siehe da, die aufgerichtete Kobra verwandelt sich in ein kaum zu bändigendes Monster!

810 PS, 945 Nm Drehmoment!

Wie gewohnt nahmen die Techniker von GeigerCars.de aus München eine Operation am offenen V8-Herz des amerikanischen Muscle-Cars vor, bei der wie üblich kein Stein auf dem anderen bliebt. Für mehr Druck spendierten sie dem 5,4-Liter-Aluminium-Block einen 3,3-Liter-Kompressor, der mit seinen 1,6 bar Ladedruck für mächtig Feuer im geschmiedeten Kurbeltrieb sorgt. Größere Drosselklappen, ein modifiziertes Einspritzsystem, ein 100-Millimeter-Luftmassenmesser sowie bearbeitete Zylinderköpfe sorgen zudem für ein Feintuning der inneren Organe. Zusätzliche Kühler für die Ladeluft, das Kühlwasser und das Motoröl sorgen dafür, dass der Achtzylinder trotz massiv erhöhter Leistung stets im perfekten Temperaturbereich arbeiten kann.

Dank der doch massiven Veränderungen entwickelt der Geiger-Mustang Shelby GT nun sagenhafte 810 PS bei 6.700 U/min, wobei das maximale Drehmoment von 945 Nm bei ca. 4.300 U/min an den verstärkten Differentialen zerrt. Natürlich musste bei so viel Drehmoment auch das Getriebe verstärkt werden, welches im selben Zug auch eine Verkürzung seines 5. und 6. Gangs erhielt. Eine 3-Scheiben-Carbon-Kupplung erzeugt eine ruckfreie Kraftübertragung. Für die artgerechte Entsorgung der Abgase sorgen ein spezieller Fächerkrümmer mit Rennsportkatalysatoren sowie eine maßgefertigte Sportauspuffanlage.

High-End-Fahrwerkstechnik

Damit so viel Leistung auch in Vortrieb umgesetzt werden kann, spendierte GeigerCars.de dem Shelby ein spezielles Rennsportfahrwerk, sowie einen Panhardstab aus Chrommolybdänstahl inklusive Polybuchsen an den Enden zum Ausgleich des Achsversatzes und neue, verstärkte sowie einstellbare Längslenker, für einen verbesserten Geradeauslauf der Hinterachse. Den wichtigen Kontakt zur Asphaltoberfläche übernehmen vier klassische OZ-Felgen in 8,5 und 10×20 Zoll, die dank Michelin-Hochleistungspneus in 245/35ZR20 und 285/30ZR20 für adäquate Gripverhältnisse sorgen. Verzögert wird die aufgerichtete Kobra mittels einer 6-Kolben-Hochleistungsbremse an der Vorderachse mit 380 Millimeter großen, gelochten oder wahlweise auch geschlitzten Bremsscheiben.

Vielleicht würde diese Mustang Shelby-Version auch der US-Rennlegende Carroll Shelby das Fürchten lehren!

Alongside the Ford Mustang V6 and its V8 brother Mustang GT there is the crowning glory of the series the wild Mustang Shelby GT500, which is equipped ex factory with 540 PS, an aggressive body and traditional double stripe paintwork. Anyone who remembers the American racing legend Carroll Shelby will be able to instantly imagine how uncompromising and purist the Shelby GT500 factory settings already are. The US car specialist Karl Geiger from Munich has now got its hands on this vehicle and take a look at how the upright Cobra has been transformed into an almost untameable monster!

810 PS, 945 Nm engine torque

As usual the engineers at GeigerCars.de from Munich operated on the open V8 heart of the American muscle car and in the process left no stone unturned. For more pressure they donated a 3.3 litre compressor to the 5.4 litre aluminium engine block which with its 1.6 bar supercharging pressure provides real fire in the forged crank drive. Larger throttle valves, a modified injection system, a 100 millimetre air flow meter and machined cylinder heads also guarantee that the inner organs are fine tuned. Additional coolers for charge air, coolant and engine oil ensure that the eight cylinder can always work at the perfect temperature range despite massively increased power.
Thanks to the massive changes the Geiger Mustang Shelby GT now generates a legendary 810 PS at 6,700 rpm, whereas the maximum engine torque of 945 Nm at approx. 4,300 rpm pulls on the increased differentials. Of course with so much engine torque the transmission also had to be reinforced and in the same step its 5th and 6th gears were shortened. A 3 disc carbon clutch produces smooth power transmission. A special manifold with racing catalytic converters and customised sport exhaust guarantee that exhaust gases are disposed of properly according to type.

High end chassis engineering

So that so much power can also be transformed in acceleration, GeigerCars.de fitted the Shelby with a special racing chassis as well as a Panhard rod made from chrome-moly steel including polyurethane bushes on the ends to balance the axial offset and new reinforced and adjustable trailing arms for improved rear axle directional stability. For the all-important contact to the asphalt surface four classic OZ alloy wheels in 8.5 and 10×20 inch guarantee adequate grip thanks to Michelin high performance tyres in 245/35ZR20 and 285/30ZR20. The upright Cobra is slowed down using 6 piston high performance brakes on the front axle with 380 millimetre large drilled or optionally slotted brake discs.

Perhaps this Mustang Shelby version would also put the fear of God into the US racing legend Carroll Shelby!

The Shelby team unveiled a supercharged concept version of the Mustang-based 2011 Shelby GT350 to the surprise of thousands gathered at the Barrett-Jackson Auction Opening Night Gala to honor the 45th anniversary of the first GT350 and first Shelby big block Cobra.

“In 1964, Ford Motor Company asked Shelby American to turn their secretary’s car into a race winner to help them sell Mustangs,” said Carroll Shelby, founder of Shelby American. “Our Shelby GT350 ruled its class at the track and was feared by GM and Chrysler owners on the street. Enthusiasts have anticipated the GT350’s return since it went out of production in 1970. Now my band of hot rodders has created a car worthy of the name.”

The concept behind the GT350 was to build a car that is light, nimble and powerful. Beginning with the “small block” 5.0 liter Ford Mustang GT as its base, the Shelby American team worked with experts from Ford Racing, Goodyear, Borla, Cragar and Baer to create a car that is fast and has razor sharp handling. Every segment of the car is enhanced or replaced to create the ultimate balanced performance pony car that is true to the spirit of the 1965-1970 MY Shelby GT350.

“The 2011 GT350 balances heritage with modern necessity,” said Shelby American president Amy Boylan. “Former Hot Wheels and Ford designer Larry Wood joined Vince LaViolette, Walter Cardenas, Andrew Smidt and the rest of our Las Vegas team to help integrate 1965-1970 Shelby styling cues with modern aerodynamics. We worked with Ford Racing to supercharge the engine with a goal of 500 horsepower, as well as to sharpen the handling. Baer Brakes helped engineer the fantastic brakes and we shod the GT350 with 19″ modern Cragar wheels and super sticky Goodyear tires. This Shelby is truly a complete performance package”

“Since this was one of the most important cars in Shelby’s history, everyone stepped up to make sure it meets Carroll’s performance standards,” added Gary Davis, vice president of production for Shelby American. “After it was hand built in our new design studio, it began extensive testing at Las Vegas Motor Speedway by veteran test drivers Vince LaViolett and Gary Patterson. We’re all proud to be part of this milestone Shelby car.”

Each GT350 will be clad in traditional white with Shelby Guardsman blue Le Mans stripes and feature the new Ford V8 coupled to a 6 speed manual transmission and center exit exhaust. Blue Shelby GT350 valve covers and billet caps set off the supercharged engine. The Baer brake system features 6 piston kit in the front, as well as 14″ ERADISPEED rotors in the rear with cooling ducts for all four corners.

The suspension was upgraded with new Ford Racing springs, struts, sway bars and adjustable caster/camber plates. The car also receives a new front fascia, tail light trim, front splitter, rear deck lid filler panel and rear fascia. Functional scoops are located on the side rockers and hood. GT350 badges on the outside and inside include a Shelby serial number. The A pillar carries a fuel pressure, oil pressure and boost gauge.

The Shelby GT350 is a post title program; a customer purchases a car from their local Ford Dealer, which is turned into a GT350 by the Shelby American Team. A limited number will be built in the 2011 model year. A Ford Mustang GT can be dropped shipped by a Ford dealer to Shelby’s Las Vegas facility for conversion or a customer can arrange to have a properly specified car transported to the factory. The Shelby GT350 up-fit completed by Shelby American has a MSRP of $33,995 and does not include the price of the base car.

Forty-five years after he introduced the original Ford Mustang, launched at a dramatic press conference at the 1964 New York World’s Fair, auto industry visionary Lee Iacocca today announced a new version of the famous muscle car – the Iacocca Silver 45th Anniversary Edition Ford Mustang – a breathtaking vehicle that utilizes the latest in Ford performance technology with a style and panache that screams, Mustang fastback. Nearly two years in the making, the Iacocca Silver Edition Mustang is a collaborative effort by Iacocca, designer Michael Leone, and Gaffoglio Family Metalcrafters, the world-class coachbuilding and Design Company in Fountain Valley, Calif. The new business venture is called I Legacy, and it will be in concert with Galpin Ford, the exclusive Ford dealership to offer these Iacocca Silver 45th Anniversary Edition Ford Mustangs to the public.

In a word, the new Iacocca Silver Edition Mustang is stunning. The lines flow organically from front to rear. The hand-crafted piece of rolling art, with its innovations and impact of the fastback design is truly exceptional in every way. With its sunken headlights, slanted grill and low stance, the car gives you “street attitude.”

“Once in a while a car comes along that changes everything, and that was the original Mustang,” said Iacocca.

The Silver Edition Mustang perpetuates the Iacocca mystique.

The car begins life on a 2009 Mustang platform, which is then uniquely modified and coachbuilt. While the exterior fastback design of the Iacocca Silver Mustang is compelling, the mechanical underpinnings are true American muscle. Two power plant options will be offered, a normally-aspirated 4.6-liter Ford V8 rated at 320 horsepower and an optional supercharged version that delivers a head-snapping 400 horsepower. Both engines are covered by a factory Ford warranty. Drivers will harness the power through a quick-shifting 5-speed manual transmission.

The car’s suspension has been upgraded to keep pace with the power delivery. A Ford Racing Handling Package adds firmer springs and re-valved shock absorbers. A 14-inch Ford Racing Braking Package is optional. All suspension components will be covered under a factory Ford warranty, as well.

Inside the Iacocca Silver Mustang, the interior is resplendent with luxurious touches that highlight the car’s special heritage, including Iacocca Diamond Design leather seats with embroidery stitching, an Iacocca signature dash plaque with serial number, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with “I” badge, and Iacocca-badged aluminum door sill plates.

The cars will initially be revealed and then available at a reception in late July, at Southern California’s Galpin Ford dealership, the world’s largest volume Ford dealer for 19 years, as well as an innovator in the promotion and retail of specialty automobiles. The price is yet to be announced.

The ROUSH 2010 427R™ Mustang will be the first in the lineup of new ROUSH® 2010 Mustangs to have a ROUSHcharger® installed which boosts the horsepower to 435 and offers 400 lb.-ft. of torque. This is the first time that ROUSH has been able to offer a supercharged vehicle at the launch of a new body style.

Under the hood customers will see many differences in the ROUSH 2010 427R Mustang compared to previous years. One of the biggest changes is that the long air induction tube that wrapped around the engine was eliminated making a much cleaner appearance under the hood. The intercooler reservoir has more than twice the volume of previous generations, and the intercooler itself is a single core cross-flow radiator which means more efficient cooling. It is substantially larger than on prior model years, and is now raised higher off the ground which should offer much less potential for road debris damage. Even the hoses on the ROUSH 2010 427R have seen an upgrade; they are all now 100 percent molded rubber with abrasion resistance and have imprinted markings for things like the clamp locations. This makes for even more of a true OEM appearance under the hood, and ROUSH has taken this factory appearance to the degree of matching the Ford grain on the OEM radiator reservoir and duplicated it on the one used by the intercooler. Although much of the 4.6L, 3V powertrain components are a carryover from that used on the 2005-2009 ROUSH Mustangs, customers will notice much more refinement and OEM-level quality materials and appearance on the new ROUSHchargedâ„¢ engines. This new 427Râ„¢ is be covered by a 3-year/36,000 mile warranty.

The 2010 427Râ„¢ includes an appearance package which is comprised of several components such as a new front fascia and front splitter, rear fascia, side splitters, and a three-piece rear wing. The new rear fascia is a one-piece design which improves the fit and finish; the part is injection-molded by ROUSH Manufacturing in an OEM-level TPO plastic which, in the black color with decorative grain, will help reduce rock chips. The vehicle rides on 18-inch cast chrome wheels with high-performance Cooper Zeon tires, with a new 20-inch cast chrome wheel as an available option.

This package also includes an all-new suspension package to greatly enhance the handling of the vehicle and turn that daily commute into a slalom course. The ROUSH chassis engineering team has driven tens of thousands of miles on the streets and tracks to create the best blend of comfort and handling, and claim that this is the best suspension package they have come up with yet for the Mustang. A ROUSH wheel hop reduction kit will be included with all vehicles that have the upgraded ROUSH suspension package installed at the factory.

“I’ve driven every generation of ROUSH Mustangs and there is no question that these cars keep improving over the years. Our engineering teams never sit back and say,’That’s it. We are done working on this now.’ They continually refine the components, whether it is in the engine, suspension, or any other part of the car. They are always thinking and testing and improving and creating the ultimate Mustang for the muscle car enthusiast. Mustang comes standard with Ford’s AdvanceTrac® Electronic Stability Control system, which complements the car’s standard all-speed traction control and anti-lock braking system. A Sport Mode, available on the GT Premium and Shelby GT500, incorporates a unique calibration of the new AdvanceTrac system, letting the driver enjoy a wider range of Mustang’s performance capabilities.

Options Galore
Mustang is America’s best-selling convertible, thanks to features like a three-layer weatherproof power top. Mustang V-6 and GT models are available with convertible tops for an additional $5,000.

For a no-matter-the-weather “open” experience, Mustang also offers a factory-installed glass roof option for $1,995 on the V-6 and GT models.

The fixed glass roof is made of two layers of tinted privacy glass with a layer of transparent vinyl in between, which reduces vehicle cool-down time as well as infrared energy and ultraviolet (UV) rays. The roof, for example, filters 90 percent of the sun’s heat-generating infrared rays and 96 percent of burn-causing UV rays. A thick polyvinyl butyral layer further filters UV rays and helps muffle wind and traffic noise by as much as five decibels. For added privacy and protection, a manually retractable mesh sun shade comes standard.

Mustang also offers a wide selection of personalization options from the factory as warranty-friendly Genuine Ford Accessories, from exterior stripes to interior appearance features, wheel selections, communication and entertainment systems and more.

Plus, Mustang enthusiasts can now add Performance Packs available from Ford Racing, including a Power Upgrade Pack, Handling Pack, or SuperPack – all under warranty when installed by a Ford dealer.

Fuel Facts
The 2010 Mustang is jam-packed with unprecedented content, yet it weighs approximately 300 pounds less than the competing Camaro and Challenger. This leaner curb weight gives Mustang a competitive leg up in agility and contributes significantly to Mustang’s unsurpassed 26 mpg.

Mustang’s available engines, including the GT’s beefy 4.6-liter V-8, also are designed to use regular 87-octane fuel, allowing customers to save even more money at the pump, without sacrificing performance. Both Camaro and Challenger recommend premium grade gasoline.

Mustang also makes fill-ups more hassle-free with its standard Easy Fuelâ„¢ Capless Fuel Fuller system, a segment exclusive.

The Shelby GT500
For Mustang lovers who prefer the highest performance, the 2010 Shelby GT500 offers a 5.4-liter supercharged four-valve V-8 engine that pumps out 540 horsepower and 510 ft.-lbs. of torque. Thanks in part to a cold-air intake system, lower-restriction exhaust, new engine calibration and revised gearing, the 2010 Shelby GT500 delivers more power while also increasing fuel efficiency. The GT500 improves its fuel economy by 2 mpg on the highway for a rating of 14 mpg in city driving and 22 mpg on the highway. Power is sent to the ground through a short-shift six-speed manual transmission with a limited-slip 3.55 rear axle gear ratio.

New suspension tuning and aerodynamic improvements give the 2010 Shelby GT500 sharper handling, improved body control and better overall vehicle dynamics while still maintaining a good ride and handling balance. Forged and machined 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Goodyear F1 Supercar tires, combined with the revised suspension, gives the car a high level of grip.

New standard features for the 2010 Shelby GT500 include high-end items such as Alcantara® on the heavily bolstered sport seats, steering wheel, shift boot and hand brake; leather stripes stitched into the seats that coordinate with the exterior stripe color; Q-ball shift knob and aluminum interior trim that enhances the Shelby GT500 driving environment.

Four decades after Shelby and Ford collaborated on a race version of the legendary Mustang, the companies are offering a limited edition track day version of the Ford Shelby GT. Ford Racing and Shelby Automobiles, a wholly owned subsidiary of Carroll Shelby International, Inc. (PINKSHEETS: CSBI) will commemorate the 1965 SCCA championship of Jerry Titus and final production of the current generation Mustang by offering up to 37 total 550 horsepower Shelby GT “R Model.” The 2009 Shelby GT “R Model” will be available for US$134,995.

“In 1965, my team built 37 small block ‘R Model’ race-only versions of the Shelby GT350 Mustang that kicked tails on circuits worldwide,” said Carroll Shelby, founder of Shelby Automobiles. “Working with Ford Racing, we’re going to build a new track day ‘R Model’ version of the Ford Shelby GT. It’ll be lots of fun to drive and ready to rip up the pavement right out of the box.”

The track day car will be featured as a “Jerry Titus Drivers Edition” to honor his 1965 “B Production” championship, which was the first for a Shelby Mustang. Jerry was one of the special drivers who piloted Shelby Mustangs to total domination on the track. Not only did he win the first championship, he broke the story of the “R Model” to the world in Sports Car Graphic and was instrumental in its development. The 2009 Jerry Titus Edition “R Model” lives up to his performance legacy.

The “R Model” version of the Mustang will be a purpose-built track car based on the same 4.6-liter V8 that powers every Ford Shelby GT; the vehicles cannot be registered for the street. Additional power will come from the Ford Racing/Whipple Twin Screw intercooled supercharger installed by Shelby and mated to a T6060 GT500-based six speed transmission before the Shelby team inserts them into the race-ready chassis. Each will be painted white with silver stripes and documented in the Shelby Registry. The racer qualifies for the NASA “American Iron Extreme” class and an excellent all-around track car that is uniquely Shelby.

“From the competition brakes to the straight pipes, this fantastic car is worthy of the ‘R Model’ designation,” stated Amy Boylan, President of Shelby Automobiles. “Working closely with Ford Racing, we engineered a car with the balanced handling, serious power and spectacular brakes that serious enthusiasts want. And just like the car driven by Jerry Titus in 1965, this Ford Shelby GT ‘R Model’ showcases our expertise in an affordable, turnkey package.”

The “R Model” is based on the 2007-08 model Ford Shelby GT. The streetcar is a well-balanced, fun to drive machine that leveraged Shelby’s experience making Mustangs go faster.

“The Shelby name has stood for performance since Carroll began building cars for the track in 1962,” added Brian Wolfe, director, Ford North America Motorsports. “Track Day enthusiasts have been asking for a contemporary Shelby and Ford Track Car for some time, so we at Ford Racing are pleased to team up with Shelby Automobiles to build a handful of very special cars. We look forward to watching them roar past Camaros and Challengers when they show up at the track.”

Steve Saleen kündigt ein turbulentes Jahr an, denn mit seiner Firma SMS Supercars will er 2009 richtig durchstarten. Ziel ist es die aktuellen Muscle Cars aufzuwerten und zu verfeinern. So wird er diese Jahr nicht nur Hand an den Dodge Challenger und Ford Mustang legen, sondern sich auch um den neuen Chevrolet Camaro kümmern! Dies wurde jetzt bekannt gegeben. Aktuell wird also an den Modellen: SMS 570 und 570X Challenger, SMS 460 Mustang und im laufe des Jahres auch am SMS Camaro, gearbeitet. SMS stattet alle Modelle mit neuen SMS Kompressoren, neuen Fahrwerken und diversen anderen Stylingelementen auf. Auch im Innenraum wird man hochwertigere Materialen verwenden um dem highend Image gerecht zu werden. Die Produktion des SMS Challenger wird bereits in diesem Monat begonnen, die Produktion des der SMS Mustang soll dann im Frühling starten. Der Camaro wird wohl erst zum Ende des Jahres, bei SMS, vom Band laufen. Wer sich also ein solches Muscle Car zulegen möchte, kann bereits Bestellungen bei ausgewählten Dodge, Ford und Chevrolet Händlern, einreichen.
