Design Process:
Starting with a stock Dodge Challenger, I lowered the car and replaced the wheels with the NASCAR style wheels. The interior have been stripped out and converted to race spec. I then used the duck-tail wing commonly found in the NS cars along with the rocker panel and front splitter modifications. Details like roof wind diffusers I thought was also appropriate. Typical in the series are the sponsor decals and that huge number applied in the door. I took out the side view mirrors and the door handles thinking that this body will be a one-piece clip anyway. The headlight area is also a decal since these race cars doesn’t require a functioning unit. I kept it a single color so to make it look like a real concept nascar race car from Dodge.

Looking at the finished rendering, the car looks even more retro than ever before. And the body is not too far away from factory just as what was being mentioned in the report.

Chevy Camaro Returns as Official Pace Car for 51st Daytona 500; Iconic 2010 Model Returns to the “Great American Race” After 40-Year Absence

DAYTONA BEACH, FL (Feb. 7, 2009) — Daytona International Speedway officials announced the return of the Chevy Camaro as the Official Pace Car of the 51st running of the Daytona 500–the first Camaro to pace the field since 1969.

“Chevy has been a great partner of the Daytona 500 for more than 30 years, and the Camaro is an automotive icon,’” said Speedway President Robin Braig. “This 2010 model will set the tone for a 21st century sports car, and that’s a perfect fit to lead the pack at the ‘Great American Race.”

The 426-horsepower vehicle, powered by the 6.2-liter all-aluminum Chevy V-8, carries a PPG Cyber Grey paint scheme with a bold accent design befitting “The World Center of Racing.” A Camaro has paced the field just twice in Dayton 500 history, in 1968 and ’69, and this 2010 model is scheduled to hit showroom floors this spring.

Built on GM’s new global rear-wheel drive architecture, the Camaro also will be offered in V-6-powered LS and LT models. Additional specs of the 2010 model pace car include:

RPM-3D, Inc., einer der Marktführer im Bereich von 3D Visualisierungen, wenn es um den Motorsport geht, hat sich hauptsächlich auf das Design von amerikanischen Nascar’s spezialisiert. So setzen Rennställe, Fahrer und Sponsoren auf die 3D Modelle aus dem Hause RPM-3D. Dieser hat bereits im September 2008 zu einem Design Contest, für deren Ford Mustang, aufgerufen! Ziel ist es ein Design zu finden, in dem sich die Marke RPM-3D und deren Logo, wiederspiegelt. Die Farbwahl spielt dabei keine Rolle, die Hauptfarben der Firma sind jedoch Rot, Schwarz, Silber und Weiß. Das beste Design wird in die Realität umgesetzt und wird für Marketing – auf diversen Show’s, Rennveranstaltungen und Rennstrecken, unterwegs sein. Wichtig ist, des Design wird als ganzes später auf das Auto geklebt, sprich, kein Airbrush oder andere Zeichnungen sollen eingereicht werden. Am besten wäre ein EPS File im Vectorformat oder aber PSD-Files in Druckqualität. Ob das Design letzten Endes auch auf das Fahrzeug kommt, entscheidet eine 3D Visualisierung vor der finalen Umsetzung. Der Contest endet übrigens mit dem 30. Januar 2009 und der Gewinner wird am 15. Its simple, design a car that when you saw rolling down the street, highway or parked at a track, shop, or car-show, you would say to yourself, I gota check out RPM-3D, cause that car is SMOKIN!

Any designer out there that provides a design we like or use parts of will listed on the “Official RPM-3D Car” Mini-Website that will show off the final design in 3D and once the car is wrapped, there will also be a full 360 degree application that show’s off the wrap… We will also link back to artists website as well as have a gallery of the designs shown on the Mini-Site as well, so yes, regardless your work will be seen by anyone that visits the “Mini-Site”.

This car will be seen at the Race Track, Car shows, Racing events, etc…

A few things to keep in mind… Designs must be able to be blown up to wrap the REAL car if picked either in whole or part. This will be a Full Body Vinyl wrap job, not a airbrushed or painted job. So Illustrator or EPS files will work the best if your design is selected in whole or in part… or VERY VERY large PSD files.

The final design will be wrapped on a 3D version of the car first to check to for problem areas, overall design and look, etc… After all, Full Car Body Wraps are not CHEAP…

LAS VEGAS – The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on March 1, 2009 will be sponsored by Shelby Automobiles. The event will be lengthened to 427 miles and will be called the “Shelby 427.”

Together, LVMS and Shelby will market a Las Vegas Motor Speedway Limited Edition Shelby 427 package for the Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang.

LVMS President Chris Powell and Shelby Automobiles founder Carroll Shelby made the announcement today at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas.

“We are ecstatic to have the legendary Shelby name on our 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup race,” Powell said. “It’s a tremendous opportunity for us to give added exposure to the Shelby brand that has, over the years, become synonymous with the best in high-performance cars.”

Bruton Smith, founder and CEO of LVMS parent company Speedway Motorsports, and Carroll Shelby have been friends for many years.

“We are thrilled to combine the efforts of our two companies in this sponsorship,” Smith said. “Carroll and his team have long been known for the high quality of their work and the tremendous popularity of their cars.”

Carroll Shelby has driven and designed race and sports cars for more than 50 years. His company, Shelby Automobiles, located its manufacturing facility at the speedway complex as the anchor tenant in 1998. The company uses the oval and road courses for its research and development. This is the first time Shelby Automobiles has sponsored a NASCAR event.

“The Shelby name will be forever linked to racing because of our unrivaled success in competition over the years,” said Amy Boylan, president of Shelby Automobiles. “The Ford Shelby Mustang programs have allowed us to begin exploring motorsports options again. Since its inception in 1998, the Sprint Cup race at LVMS has been run at a length of 400.5 miles, which is 267 laps around the 1.5-mile oval. In order to accommodate the new event name, the race will be increased by 27 miles and will feature 285 laps.

As part of the one-year race sponsorship, Shelby Automobiles will market a Las Vegas Motor Speedway Limited Edition Shelby 427 package for the Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang. Owners of 2007 and 2008 Shelby GT500s with the post title Super Snake package on their muscle car can purchase the limited edition “pace car” upgrade on a first-come, first-served basis by emailing shelby427@lvms.com.
