Ziemlich genau vor einem Jahr hatten wir berichtet, dass die Firma Classic Recreations die <a href="http://www.musclecars.at/2008/02/19/eleanor-mustang-lizensiert-von-classic-recreations">Lizenz f&#252;r den Bau des Shelby Eleanor erworben</a> hat. Nun stellt Classic Recreations offiziell den nagelneuen Shelby GT500CR, auf Basis des 1967 Shelby GT500, in Las Vegas vor. Zu sehen ist allerdings nur der bisherige Prototyp, welcher mit einem 427cui V8 Motor ausgestattet wurde, dieser leistet 545 PS. Dazu gibt es ein frisches Fahrwerk, welches auf dem neusten Stand ist, gr&#246;&#223;ere und nagelneue Baer Scheibenbremsen, Karosserieteile aus Fieberglas und eine moderner Lenkung. Auf dem neuesten Stand ist auch die 1967&#8242;iger &#8220;deluxe&#8221; Innenausstattung, welche von Carroll Shelby nat&#252;rlich wieder mit seiner Unterschrift versehen wurde. 17-Zoll Felgen und ein Tremec Getriebe ist ebenso an Bord. Wem 545 PS nicht ausreichend sind, der kann sich auch die Venom Variante bestellen, diese wird dank Kompressor mit 780 PS ausgeliefert. Preislich geht es beim GT500CR bei 119.000 Dollar, f&#252;r das Einsteigermodell, los. In der Venomvariante kostet es er dann allerdings stolze 199.000 Dollar! <p>Classic Recreations 1967 G.T.500CR makes first public appearance in Las Vegas the same weekend as the NASCAR Shelby American Race</p>
<p>Yukon, Okla. (Feb 25th, 2010) &#8211; Less than four months after custom coachbuilder Classic Recreations announced the Officially-Licensed 1967 Shelby G.T.500CR continuation car program at the 2009 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, the first prototype made its debut in the same city but with a very different setting.</p>
<p>Details of the reborn supercar have been a closely guarded secret, but on February 25th, 2010, the first GT500CR prototype was photographed near the Shelby American facility in Las Vegas, prior to an all-Shelby weekend where car owners and NASCAR fans gathered to celebrate the legendary mark during the NASCAR Shelby American GT350 stock car race.</p>
<p>The G.T.500CR is the first official 1967 Shelby Mustang continuation car ever built, and each hand-built vehicle features a 427 cubic inch (7.0L) engine, model specific bodywork, custom paint and hand-stitched upholstery.<br />
Every has an official Shelby serial number, badges and will be included in the Shelby World Registry. The prototype that appeared in Las Vegas is the 545 horsepower Performance Model, featuring a fuel injected, naturally aspirated engine, modern coil-over suspension with rack-and-pinion steering and more.</p>

Am 13. M&#228;rz steht in Florida, beim <a href="https://www.ameliaconcours.org/default.asp">Amelia Island Concours</a>, eine ganz besondere Shelby Cobra zum Verkauf. Die 1964 Shelby Cobra CSX2557 ist eine von 42, mit einem 289 cui. V8 gebauten Cobras. Ok, klingt nicht besonders, aber sie ist eine von genau sechs des &#8220;cutback door&#8221; Rennteams, welche direkt von Werk aus auf den Rennstrecken unterwegs war. Sie wurde gebaut f&#252;r die U.S. Road Racing Championships kurz USRRC. Einige Designelemente dieser Cobra gingen direkt in die sp&#228;tere Serienproduktion der 427 Cobra ein, wie zB. die verbreiterten Kotfl&#252;gel, die gro&#223;en Lufteinl&#228;sse und die seitlich angebrachte Auspuffanlage. Dieses Exemplar ist direkt in den H&#228;nden von Shelby bei einigen Rennen mitgefahren und ist vielleicht gerade deshalb, eines der am besten erhaltenen Shelby Cobra aus dieser Serie. Im Jahre 1990 wurde es zudem aufwendig Restauriert. Wer also Lust bekommt, der erwartete Preis liegt bei 1.500.000-1.900.000 US Dollar! <p>Reproduced on the last page of Mike Shoen&#8217;s book, The Cobra-Ferrari Wars, is a hand-annotated typewritten page listing just 42 &#8220;Cars Built to Racing Specification.&#8221; A legend was built on the successes of those few cars.</p>
<p>Nearly a half century after the first of them was built and more than four decades after the last of them left AC in Thames Ditton and Shelby&#8217;s Los Angeles shop, this legend still inspires the admiration and respect that makes the name &#8220;Cobra&#8221; recognized worldwide. And while many legends are embellished with the passing of time, the Cobra&#8217;s iconic status is based on solid fact: the success of a few passionate guys who bested the established powers in U.S. and international road racing on the strength of their ingenuity, persistence, creativity and drive.</p>
<p>Of those 42 &#8220;Cars Built to Racing Specifications,&#8221; only 29 enjoyed the distinction of being factory team cars, part of Shelby&#8217;s continuous efforts from the very first Cobra to discover the weaknesses of the combination of the AC Ace chassis and body with Ford&#8217;s lightweight cast iron 260 and 289 cubic inch V8 engines. As shortcomings surfaced – which they did from the very first Cobra built – they were corrected in the next series of team Cobras, then combined with the latest thinking in performance equipment, engine tuning and tires to discover a new round of improvements to be incorporated in the next series of team cars.</p>
<p>A compact organization, with short lines of communication between Shelby in California and AC in England, the changes developed in competition were quickly incorporated in production Cobras, making it easy for the two factories and private owners to convert production cars to competition. It was the sort of continuous improvement that took decades for major carmakers to adopt. It was second nature to Shelby&#8217;s competition-focused crew and essential to realize the Cobra&#8217;s potential.</p>
<p>It also meant that the later cars were always better than their predecessors. The last of the series, the six &#8220;cutback door&#8221; 289 factory team roadsters built for the 1964-65 U.S. Road Racing Championship series, were the best of all.</p>
<p>The 1963-65 period saw the glorious culmination of a generation&#8217;s evolution of road racing in the years after World War II. Ferrari, Maserati, Porsche, Aston Martin, Alfa Romeo, Jaguar, Lola and Chevrolet fielded factory-backed teams to contest epic contests on purpose built road courses at Monza, Daytona, Goodwood, the N&#252;rburgring, Bridgehampton and Montlhèry; legendary open road circuits at the Targa Florio, Rheims, Le Mans and Spa Francorchamps; the airport circuit at Sebring; and the 8-day trial that made up the Tour de France Auto.</p>
<p>These top marques built models that are today nearly mythical in their allure and performance – GTO, 275P, 250LM, Project 214, Lightweight E-type, Tipo 151, GTZ, 904, Grand Sport – often building specific cars adapted in engine, transmission, suspension, bodywork and even wheelbase to suit the performance characteristics of a specific course, season and race length. In just a small cluster of years in the middle of the Sixties, some of the most famous, desirable and beautiful sports racing and gran turismo automobiles ever built were created and raced.</p>
<p>Carroll Shelby pursued the same development track, creating a series of increasingly specific Cobras in just a few years but basing them on his own concept of marrying a lightweight but – by the standards of the day at least – large displacement American V8 engine with a proven chassis, suspension and bodywork. The concept wasn&#8217;t new. Railton had done it in England in the thirties with Hudson drivetrains. Jensen had used Ford V8s, impressing even Edsel Ford with their design, handling and performance. Sydney Allard also was a Ford guy before he adopted the overhead valve V8s from Cadillac and Chrysler.</p>
<p>Shelby&#8217;s opportunity arose when Bristol stopped production of its BMW-based two-liter six. AC Cars had employed it with success for extra performance in its Ace roadster, a beautiful little two-seater built on a John Tojeiro-designed chassis with four-wheel independent suspension. Originally built for AC&#8217;s ancient (designed by John Weller in 1919) single overhead camshaft two-liter six, the Bristol&#8217;s added performance made a consistent winner of the Ace in two-liter competition, and the loss of Bristol power threatened the small manufacturer with extinction. Shelby learned of Ford&#8217;s new 260 cubic inch Fairlane V8 and talked Ford out of two of them to create a Cobra proposal. It created a sensation when launched at the New York Auto Show in 1962.</p>
<p>Production followed swiftly, if in small quantities, as did competition. In October 1962 at Riverside, the first steps in Cobra development were undertaken after the car, driven by Bill Krause, failed to finish when a rear hub failed. The first Cobra race win was notched only three months later, also at Riverside, in the hands of Dave MacDonald. As unlikely as it sounded, Shelby set his sights on an FIA Manufacturers Championship and a parade of ever stronger, better handling, more reliable and faster Cobras began to pass through the roster of the Shelby team.</p>
<p>Cobra historians (and for this we defer to the 4th edition &#8220;World Registry of Cobras and GT40s&#8221;) group the factory team cars into just seven clusters, which culminate in the 1964-65 USRRC Roadsters of which the example offered here, CSX 2557, is one. Specifications merged, consistent with constant evolution in 1963, but the evolution became clearer as the march to the 1965 Manufacturers Championship gathered momentum. The transverse leaf spring independent suspension chassis John Tojeiro designed for the two-liter AC engine in 1953 grew stronger, and its handling and steering became more predictable and setup more flexible to meet the demands of the widely varying circuits and conditions on U.S. road courses, as well as the diverse demands of the FIA&#8217;s international schedule.</p>
<p>Engines were based on standard &#8220;K-Code&#8221; Mustang 289/271 hp powerplants with race prepared lower ends, ported and polished heads with big valves, Cobra intakes with a quartet of Weber downdraft carbs, headers, side outlet exhausts, big oil sumps with baffles and anti-surge doors and oil coolers. The cars got oversize fuel tanks with &#8220;Monza&#8221; quick release fuel filler caps, Koni shock absorbers, anti-roll bars, stiffened springs, Halibrand center lock magnesium wheels, oversize brakes, brake cooling, differential oil coolers, wider wheels and tires and many more modifications for performance and reliability.</p>
<p>The performance of the little Ford V8 soon overpowered the standard racing tires, and Shelby, with Ford&#8217;s support, looked for better rubber. As much as Ford was battling Ferrari and Jaguar for dominance on the track, Goodyear and Firestone were locked in a desperate struggle for supremacy in the &#8220;round, black things&#8221; that put it all to work. Shelby found its solution first in the &#8220;Stock Car Specials&#8221; Goodyear built for NASCAR, getting the winged foot technicians to cut a shallow blocky tread pattern on the NASCAR slicks (that soon became slick in competition) that locked the Ford engine&#8217;s generous torque to the pavement.</p>
<p>Eventually bigger tires required wider wheels, and by the 1964 FIA season, the narrow AC-derived 289 Cobra body no longer could claim to encompass them within even the most aggressive tacked on flares. The wide hips that would later come to characterize 427-powered Cobras made their debut on a series of 1964 FIA Cobras, and even they were barely able to shelter the 8 ½-inch wide Halibrands and their beefy rubber. The exaggerated rear fenders extended into the door area, which necessitated reshaping the doors to a radically radiused rear edge and inspired the moniker &#8220;cutback doors&#8221; that has come to characterize these cars, nearly the ultimate in small block competition Cobra development.</p>
<p>The voluptuous fenders, huge air intakes, big wheels and tires foreshadowed the new Cobra II, the 427-powered coil spring suspension Cobras that would soon supplant the first generation. Combining the aggressive appearance of the later 427s with the lighter weight, more responsive chassis and better balance of the small block Cobras, the cutback door Cobras set a standard for aggressive appearance with performance to match which still inspires admiration.</p>
<p>Later in 1964, Shelby completed a series of the ultimate competition 289 Cobras. Essentially constructed to FIA specs with wide rear fenders and cutback doors, they are known as the USRRC cars and were built with minor differences specifically to the rules of the U.S. Road Racing Championship. In addition to their USRRC-specific equipment, they incorporate everything Shelby had learned in three years of intense competition with the world&#8217;s most experienced and accomplished marques.</p>
<p>CSX 2557, offered here, is one of those six 1964 USRRC cars. One of only two of the USRRC Cobras completed with dual side pipes on each side of the car, it was entered in the season-ending FIA race, the Bridgehampton Double 500 in September 1964. Driven there by Charlie Hayes, it failed to finish when a carburetor drain plug worked loose, dumping its fuel on the track and emptying the tank on lap 48 of the 110-lap race. Thereafter, it was retained by Shelby American as a spare until it was sold in April 1966 to Richard Roe, who raced it in SCCA A/Production during 1966 and then sold it to Murray Kellner in Locanto, Florida, who continued its U.S. racing although with unknown results. Its subsequent history is known and documented in the &#8220;SAAC World Registry.&#8221;</p>
<p>It was restored to its original Shelby team appearance in Guardsman Blue with White Le Mans stripes in the mid-90s.</p>
<p>One of the most original and unmolested of all the famed Shelby Cobra 289 race cars, CSX 2557 is in exceptional, meticulously maintained condition today, an example that exhibits nearly a half century&#8217;s careful preservation, restoration, maintenance and enjoyment. Its history is clear and unblemished by mishap, disappearance or accident.</p>
<p>It was sampled briefly by an RM representative following its catalog photography on a chilly January day in New England. Starting smartly after two pumps on the accelerator and a touch of the key-actuated starter, it settled smoothly into a stable idle. The clutch engaged gently and the engine burbled happily at low rpm, a car anyone accustomed to driving a stick shift Mustang could accommodate easily.</p>
<p>Off idle, its vastly over-carbureted engine fussed and objected until it warmed up but then displayed a willingness to rev that invited a detour onto the nearby stretch of Interstate 95, unfortunately deterred by the lack of license plates (and its custodian&#8217;s concern). The gearbox (described by Le Mans-winner Paul Frere in Michael Shoen&#8217;s The Cobra-Ferrari Wars as &#8220;finger-light&#8221; and &#8220;takes no effort&#8221;) is a delight. The unassisted brakes pull up with reasonable effort, straight and true even when cold. The unusual four-branch side exhaust system has its own distinctive gobble-gobble beat at idle, and the torque of the 289, even with big valves, headers, a cam and plenty of carburetion, comes on strongly at low rpm, easily exceeding the old, cold 7.00-15 Goodyear Blue Streak Sports Car Specials&#8217; grip on cold pavement.</p>
<p>Unlike many old race cars, it&#8217;s easy to drive gently and encourages experimentation with its limits.</p>
<p>Riding in real Halibrands with seating for two, exhilarating performance and modern safety precautions including an onboard fire system, this is the epitome of mid-sixties GT race car technology. Stable in the hands of a competent driver, its potential in the hands of Shelby team drivers like Bob Bondurant, Allen Grant, Dick Thompson, Ronnie Bucknum, Phil Hill or Dan Gurney is apparent. A pair of star cracks in the paint from stones thrown up from the tires attest to its enthusiastic use; its presentation is that of a team car after practice and before the start of the Bridgehampton Double 500.</p>
<p>By all accounts, it is the next-to-last Team Cobra built, the culmination of three years of intensive development, testing and racing in the most demanding international competition that would bring Shelby the 1965 FIA Manufacturers Championship.</p>
<p>Best of all, it&#8217;s good enough to show – but not too good to drive.</p>

<p>SCOTTSDALE – Jan. 18, 2010 – Shelby American, a wholly owned subsidiary of Carroll Shelby International Inc. (CSBI:PK), will fulfill the dreams of enthusiasts by returning the legendary Shelby GT350 to its lineup of American performance cars. The Shelby team unveiled a supercharged concept version of the Mustang-based 2011 Shelby GT350 to the surprise of thousands gathered at the Barrett-Jackson Auction Opening Night Gala to honor the 45th anniversary of the first GT350 and first Shelby big block Cobra.</p>
<p>&#8220;In 1964, Ford Motor Company asked Shelby American to turn their secretary&#8217;s car into a race winner to help them sell Mustangs,&#8221; said Carroll Shelby, founder of Shelby American. &#8220;Our Shelby GT350 ruled its class at the track and was feared by GM and Chrysler owners on the street. Enthusiasts have anticipated the GT350&#8217;s return since it went out of production in 1970. Now my band of hot rodders has created a car worthy of the name.&#8221;</p>
<p>The concept behind the GT350 was to build a car that is light, nimble and powerful. Beginning with the &#8220;small block&#8221; 5.0 liter Ford Mustang GT as its base, the Shelby American team worked with experts from Ford Racing, Goodyear, Borla, Cragar and Baer to create a car that is fast and has razor sharp handling. Every segment of the car is enhanced or replaced to create the ultimate balanced performance pony car that is true to the spirit of the 1965-1970 MY Shelby GT350.</p>
<p>&#8220;The 2011 GT350 balances heritage with modern necessity,&#8221; said Shelby American president Amy Boylan. &#8220;Former Hot Wheels and Ford designer Larry Wood joined Vince LaViolette, Walter Cardenas, Andrew Smidt and the rest of our Las Vegas team to help integrate 1965-1970 Shelby styling cues with modern aerodynamics. We worked with Ford Racing to supercharge the engine with a goal of 500 horsepower, as well as to sharpen the handling. Baer Brakes helped engineer the fantastic brakes and we shod the GT350 with 19&#8243; modern Cragar wheels and super sticky Goodyear tires. This Shelby is truly a complete performance package&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;Since this was one of the most important cars in Shelby&#8217;s history, everyone stepped up to make sure it meets Carroll&#8217;s performance standards,&#8221; added Gary Davis, vice president of production for Shelby American. &#8220;After it was hand built in our new design studio, it began extensive testing at Las Vegas Motor Speedway by veteran test drivers Vince LaViolett and Gary Patterson. We&#8217;re all proud to be part of this milestone Shelby car.&#8221;</p>
<p>Each GT350 will be clad in traditional white with Shelby Guardsman blue Le Mans stripes and feature the new Ford V8 coupled to a 6 speed manual transmission and center exit exhaust. Blue Shelby GT350 valve covers and billet caps set off the supercharged engine. The Baer brake system features 6 piston kit in the front, as well as 14&#8243; ERADISPEED rotors in the rear with cooling ducts for all four corners.</p>
<p>The suspension was upgraded with new Ford Racing springs, struts, sway bars and adjustable caster/camber plates. The car also receives a new front fascia, tail light trim, front splitter, rear deck lid filler panel and rear fascia. Functional scoops are located on the side rockers and hood. GT350 badges on the outside and inside include a Shelby serial number. The A pillar carries a fuel pressure, oil pressure and boost gauge.</p>
<p>The Shelby GT350 is a post title program; a customer purchases a car from their local Ford Dealer, which is turned into a GT350 by the Shelby American Team. A limited number will be built in the 2011 model year. A Ford Mustang GT can be dropped shipped by a Ford dealer to Shelby&#8217;s Las Vegas facility for conversion or a customer can arrange to have a properly specified car transported to the factory. The Shelby GT350 up-fit completed by Shelby American has a MSRP of $33,995 and does not include the price of the base car.</p>

<p>Das <a href="http://www.musclecars.at/2009/03/09/original-shelby-daytona-cobra-coupe-steht-im-mai-zur-auktion">Shelby Daytona Coupe</a> ist Abstand eines der Supersportwagen in der amerikanischen Motorsportgeschichte und dominierte die Rennen in den Jahren um 1965. Ferrari sah damals schlecht aus gegen Carroll Shelbys Daytone Coupe und somit war er der erste und einzige amerikanische Supersportler, welcher sogar die FIA GT Weltmeisterschaft gewann. Die Aerodynamik stammt aus der Feder von Peter Brock, wodurch der Daytona Geschwindigkeiten von &#252;ber 315 km/h erzielte. Leider gibt es nur mehr eine Hand voll der Originale, aktuell kommt diesen Monat wieder einer <a href="http://www.musclecars.at/2009/03/09/original-shelby-daytona-cobra-coupe-steht-im-mai-zur-auktion">unter den Hammer</a>. Wer sich dennoch den Traum eines eigenen Coupes erf&#252;llen will, f&#252;r den bietet die in Kalifornien ans&#228;ssige Firma Exotic Auto Restoration, jetzt das unter dem Shelby Namen gef&#252;hrte Daytona Coupe Le Mans Edition an! Basierend auf dem <a href="http://www.musclecars.at/2008/04/30/carroll-shelby-empfaengt-sein-superformance-daytona-coupe">Shelby Cobra Daytone Coupe von Superperformance</a>, bekommt die Le Mans Edition neue Radk&#228;sten f&#252;r die neuen und breiteren 18 Zoll Felgen, eine neue Aufh&#228;ngung, Alcantara Sitze, ein geb&#252;rstetes Armaturenbrett aus Aluminium mit Schaltern und Anzeigen im Flugzeug-/Cockpitdesign, &#8220;Daytona Le Mans&#8221; Schriftz&#252;ge und ein Lenkrad von der Firma Momo. Als Motor ist jeder Ford V8 basierend auf dem Windsor 351 block verf&#252;gbar, so kann z.B. der in den Bildern verbaute Roush 402R mit 530 PS geordert werden. Optional ist auch eine speziell f&#252;r Rennstrecken gebaute Version verf&#252;gbar, welche dann &#252;ber einen 6 Punkt &#220;berrollk&#228;fig verf&#252;gt, ohne Klimaanlage und Teppichen, abnehmbaren Lenkrad, besseren Bremsen, Carbon Frontspoiler und Diffuser, sowie mit dem Shelby Aluminium block 427ci V8 mit 560 PS, ausgeliefert wird. <p>The Daytona Coupe Le Mans Edition by Exotic Auto Restoration &#8211; the spirit of Le Mans in your driveway</p>
<p>In 1964, Shelby took the motorsports world by storm with the Daytona Coupe. With a revolutionary design by Peter Brock, the car was capable of reaching an incredible 187 mph on the Mulsanne Straight at Le Mans. In 1965, the Daytona Coupe became the first and only American car to win the FIA GT World Championship, cementing its legacy in motorsports history. Now Exotic Auto Restoration of Costa Mesa, CA is allowing car enthusiasts to bring the legend of Le Mans to their own driveway. Based on the Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe built by Superformance and also designed by Peter Brock, the Le Mans Edition has been upgraded in the spirit of the original racecar. </p>
<p>To enhance both the looks and performance of the Daytona Coupe, Exotic Auto Restoration has designed new body and interior components that blend seamlessly with the rest of the car. &#8220;I wanted to give the car a wider, more aggressive stance as well as the capability of turning better lap times,&#8221; explains George Cunha, owner of Exotic Auto Restoration. Named for the Le Mans 24 Hour race that the Daytona Coupe won in 1965, this package includes the following:</p>
<p>- Group 5 fender flares front and rear<br />
- Wider 18-inch wheels and tires<br />
- Heavy duty Bilstein shocks and H&#038;R springs<br />
- Functional billet aluminum top and side hood louvers<br />
- Reclinable Alcantera suede seats with &#8220;Le Mans Edition&#8221; embroidery<br />
- Brushed billet aluminum dashboard with aircraft-style toggle switches<br />
- &#8220;Le Mans Edition&#8221; gauges with 200 mph speedometer and 10k rpm tachometer<br />
- Suede Momo racing steering wheel</p>
<p>Customers can choose from a variety of motors based on the Ford 351 Windsor block. Powering this particular Daytona Coupe Le Mans is a Roush 402R V8 producing 530 horsepower and 515 lb-ft torque mated to a Tremec T56 6-speed transmission. </p>
<p>In addition, a track-oriented version is also available. Only six will be built (two have been pre-sold, leaving four available) in this configuration to commemorate the six original racecars, each featuring an authentic Shelby-built V8. Adding to the standard Le Mans Edition components, this package includes the following:</p>
<p>- 6-point roll cage<br />
- Lightweight wheels with 2.5-inch locking nut<br />
- 14-inch, 6-piston brakes front, 13-inch, 6-piston brakes rear<br />
- Carbon fiber front splitter and rear diffuser<br />
- A/C delete<br />
- Carpet delete<br />
- Full race seats with 6-point harnesses<br />
- Quick-release steering wheel<br />
- Dash-mounted programmable ignition module<br />
- Dash-mounted brake bias controls<br />
- Shelby aluminum block 351 V8 bored and stroked to 427ci<br />
- 560 horsepower and 530 lb-ft torque<br />
- Tremec TKO-600 transmission<br />
- Full dry sump lubrication system</p>

<p>Carroll Shelby Licensing Grants License to Complete Shelby Cars for Unique Motorcars Former Customers</p>
<p>LOS ANGELES, Mar 10, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) &#8212; Carroll Shelby Licensing Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Carroll Shelby International Inc. (Pink Sheets: CSBI), has entered into license agreements with Kustom Classics of Fort Worth and Riley Performance Motorcars of Valley View, Texas, to allow completion of the continuation Shelby GT500SE and GT350SR cars contracted for by the former customers of Unique Performance and Unique Motorcars. Each completed car will receive an official Shelby continuation serial number and inclusion into the Shelby Worldwide Registry. Unique Performance/Motorcars filed a Chapter 7 bankruptcy petition in Texas Federal court in 2007.</p>
<p>Though the completion of these cars will be at the owner&#8217;s expense, Carroll Shelby Licensing will extend this license royalty free, in an attempt to ease the financial pain of Unique Performance&#8217;s failure to deliver their customer&#8217;s cars as contracted. In spite of Unique Performance&#8217;s failure to deliver their customer&#8217;s cars as contracted, customers who want to complete their Shelby vehicle through one of the two North Texas shops can contact either shop for details.</p>
<p>&#8220;Carroll Shelby Licensing struck this agreement on behalf of customers who contracted and paid Unique Performance for continuation Shelby cars but did not receive them,&#8221; said Carroll Shelby Licensing president John Luft. &#8220;Many of them asked us for permission to complete the build of their Shelby. We found two qualified and experienced shops that can finish the cars to Shelby specifications. This offer is being made royalty free from Carroll Shelby Licensing to help Unique&#8217;s customers who truly want a Shelby to fulfill that dream.&#8221;</p>
<p>The two shops will build vehicles to Shelby specs for customers that paid Unique Performance for Shelby continuation cars; no new vehicles can be built and sold under this agreement. The shops can locate a donor vehicle or convert a customer owned one. A build of materials and inspection by Shelby Automobiles and Carroll Shelby Licensing representatives is part of the program, but customers must assume the cost to build the cars. Individuals who paid Unique Performance a deposit for a Shelby car can contact either shop for details and requirements. <p>MARENGO, Ill. – High performance collector car specialists Mecum Auction will offer collectors a chance to own a piece of American race history when they auction the 1965 Shelby Daytona Cobra Coupe CSX2601 at the 22nd Dana Mecum Original Spring Classic Auction taking place May 13-17, 2009, in Indianapolis, Ind.<br />
And when this Crown Jewel of American Racing powers across the auction block, Mecum anticipates the championship race car to garner the highest bid ever paid at public auction for an American automobile – eight figures and counting. The Shelby Daytona Cobra Coupe will be sold on live national TV Friday, May 15, 2009, at 8:00 p.m. during the company&#8217;s series, &#8220;Mecum Auto Auction: Muscle Cars &#038; More,&#8221; on Discovery Communications&#8217; popular HD Theater.</p>
<p>The 1965 Shelby Daytona Cobra was one of six cars built by Carroll Shelby to compete against the dominating Ferrari in the F.I.A. (Federation Internationale de l&#8217;Automobile) World Manufacturers Championship for GT race class. An experimental coupe body designed by Pete Brock was built on an existing Cobra chassis, immediately increasing the top speed by 25 mph. That car won its first race, the 1964 Daytona Continental (prompting Shelby to adopt the name), and five more coupes were built, including CSX2601.</p>
<p>After competing at Daytona, Monza, Spa and Nurburgring, CSX2601 made history when it clinched the 1965 World Manufacturers Championship for the United States and Shelby American on July 4 in Reims, France.</p>
<p>&#8220;Many vintage race cars have a strong American racing history to share – including this vehicle&#8217;s sister car CSX 2299 – but no car can claim a finer race hour than the Shelby Daytona Cobra Coupe CSX2601,&#8221; said Dana Mecum, president, Mecum Auction. &#8220;The legacy of its World Manufacturer&#8217;s Championship win stays with us more than four decades later, reminding us of one the proudest moments in U.S. race history and a competitive spirit of victory against all odds.&#8221;</p>
<p>Driving the car – and America – to victory on that fateful July afternoon was legendary driver Bob Bondurant.<br />
&#8220;I won a lot of races with this Daytona Cobra Coupe, but when I crossed the finish line at the Reims race track I yelled &#8216;Yes!&#8217; It was a fantastic feeling,&#8221; Bondurant shared. &#8220;I always wanted to race in Europe against the world&#8217;s best drivers. Winning that World Championship was the crowning achievement of my career. I think it&#8217;s wonderful that the car is being showcased 40 years later.&#8221;</p>
<p>The Daytona Cobra Coupe didn&#8217;t just race, however. At one point, a North Dakota businessman with six gas stations owned the car, and each day, he&#8217;d drive the 300-mile round trip to collect station receipts in this race-trimmed Cobra.</p>
<p>&#8220;This car is a true slice of Americana, representing a different time in America&#8217;s past when driving a full-blown race car on the roads didn&#8217;t turn heads,&#8221; added Mecum. &#8220;The Daytona was also leased to Paramount Pictures for use in the Howard Hawks cult classic &#8216;Redline 7000&#8242;.&#8221;</p>
<p>Now fully restored and wearing its famous Reims livery, the Shelby Daytona Cobra CSX2601 headlines the Original Spring Classis Auction, which is expected to feature 1,250 vehicles.</p>
<p>Held at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, the auction is open to the general public with tickets are available at the door for $10. It will be broadcast live on Mecum&#8217;s popular television series, &#8220;Mecum Auto Auction: Muscle Cars &#038; More&#8221; on HD Theater – Discovery Communications&#8217; first 24-hour high-definition cable network, offering compelling real-world and motorized content.</p>

Ford hat mit dem neuen <a href="http://www.musclecars.at/2008/11/18/2010-ford-mustang-jetzt-offiziell-vorgestellt">2010 Ford Mustang</a> wieder einmal bewiesen, dass sie noch immer im Rennen sind um den, zumindest in Amerika, hei&#223; umk&#228;mpften Markt der amerikanischen Muscle Cars. So wurde im November der &#252;berarbeitet Mustang vorgestellt und vor ein paar Wochen dann, der <a href="http://www.musclecars.at/2009/01/01/2010-ford-shelby-gt500">2010 Shelby GT500</a>, in Detroit auf der Auto Show. Haupt verantwortlich f&#252;r das neue Design beim GT500 war Rob Jensen und der <a href="http://www.idsketching.com/2009/02/10/interview-rob-jensen-ford-design/">idsketching.com Blog</a> f&#252;hrte jetzt ein offizielle Interview mit Ihm &#252;ber eben dieses tolle Projekt. Jensen ver&#246;ffentlichte aus diesem Anlass auch erste Zeichnungen und Entw&#252;rfe f&#252;r den neuen Shelby. Im NHRA Motorsport Museum in Pomona, Californien, wurde letzten Freitag, zusammen mit Carroll Shelby, der wohl agressivste Mustang vorgestellt, den Shelby je gebaut hat. Benannt nach Don &#8220;The Snake&#8221; Prudhomme, welche in der NHRA Saison des Jahres 1968 einen Top Fuel Shelby fuhr. Der neue mit seinem 5,4L V8 aus dem GT500, erzielt dank eines Kenne Bell Kompressors, eine Leistung von 750 PS, welche mit Rennbenzin auf &#252;ber 800 PS steigen soll. Die neue Front besteht aus Fiberglas, ein Shelby Drag Race Spoiler wurde montiert, ein &#220;berrollk&#228;fig eingebaut, die R&#252;ckbank entfernt und neue Bremsen, Reifen, Federn und vieles mehr, montiert. Ach ja, die Super Snake Prudhomme Edition ist in Amerika Stra&#223;enzugelassen! Der Preis f&#252;r den Umbau betr&#228;gt stolze 100.000 Dollar, ein zugelassener GT500 wird also ben&#246;tigt! D.h. diese Edition gibts f&#252;r einen Preis von etwa 150.000 Dollar und es werden insgesamt nur 100 St&#252;ck produziert.<br />

<p>Shelby Automobiles, a wholly owned subsidiary of Carroll Shelby International Inc. (CSBI.PK) has returned to drag racing with a limited edition Prudhomme Edition Super Snake package for the Shelby GT500 Mustang. Carroll Shelby and Don &#8220;The Snake&#8221; Prudhomme unveiled the program during a private reception at the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum in Pomona, Calif. The drag racing inspired 800 horsepower post title package was a collaboration between Shelby Autos and Don Prudhomme, who successfully drove a top fuel car for Carroll Shelby in the 1968 NHRA season.</p>
<p>Each year, the Automobile Club of Southern California holds a dinner to support the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum on the first night of the Kragen O&#8217;Reilly NHRA Winternationals. In honor of the fortieth anniversary of the first race that Mr. Prudhomme drove for Carroll Shelby, the Shelby Autos team unveiled the new drag racing package that they developed together over the past year.</p>
<p>&#8220;Don is an exceptional drag racer and I&#8217;m proud that he drove my first Top Fuel car in 1968,&#8221; noted Carroll Shelby. &#8220;By leveraging Don&#8217;s experience, we turned a really good car into a great drag racer that will beat up on the MOPAR and bow tie brigade right out of the box.&#8221;</p>
<p>The program is a post-title package for 2007-2010 Ford Shelby GT500 cars already in the hands of owners. To create the Prudhomme Edition Super Snake, Shelby Autos pumps up the 5.4L supercharged engine to produce 800 hp on race fuel or 750 hp on 93 octane pump gas. The Shelby includes a Kenne Belle modified air intake sticking out of the hood in the tilt front end, a five-point Impact safety harness and a Borla side exhaust system. A front and rear adjustable BMR racing suspension and drag tires are included to improve traction during launches; optional street tires are available. For a more aggressive stance and improved aerodynamics, side lower rockers are incorporated. Only 100 total packages at $100,000 (not including car) will be offered.</p>
<p>&#8220;Working with Don on this project was a great experience for our design team,&#8221; noted Amy Boylan, president of Shelby Automobiles. &#8220;Carroll and Don earned their stripes in competition over the years, so we had to build a car that would continue their racing domination. Our Prudhomme Edition GT500 Super Snake builds on that legacy and gives Shelby enthusiasts today a way to rule the quarter mile in their town.&#8221;</p>
<p>By the mid-1960s, Carroll Shelby and Don Prudhomme were both at the top of their respective games. Prudhomme was one of the winningest Top Fuel drag racers in the country. Shelby was a racer-turned-builder of Cobras, GT40s and Mustangs who won endurance and road racing championships worldwide. His company even offered drag racing packages for privateers to compete in their Cobra or Shelby Mustang on the strip.</p>
<p>&#8220;The Snake&#8221; and the Cobra&#8217;s creator teamed in 1968 for an NHRA ride. Prudhomme&#8217;s Ford Cammer-powered rail made its debut as &#8220;Shelby&#8217;s Super Snake at the 1968 Winternationals. He won the race and drove the rest of the season under the Shelby banner.</p>
<p>Don &#8220;The Snake&#8221; Prudhomme&#8217;s successful racing career included winning the NHRA funny car championship four times. He was the first funny car driver to exceed 250 mph. In 1994, he began managing his own racing team, which won the Top Fuel championship in 2002 and 2003. Prudhomme was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 1991 and the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2000.</p>
<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s been a great opportunity to work with Carroll and the Shelby Autos team on this amazing program,&#8221; added Prudhomme. &#8220;I&#8217;m honored that Carroll gave me this honor to build a car that&#8217;s true to his legacy and my efforts to move them across the finish line first. The car can be tuned to deliver over 800 horsepower on race gas, which should pretty fast. It&#8217;s a well sorted out package that is capable of dusting the competition in the Shelby way.&#8221;</p>
<p>The Prudhomme Edition Shelby GT500 Super Snake is intended to be truly a road and track car.</p>
<p>&#8220;The thing I really think is cool about this car is that you can drive it both on the track and on the street,&#8221; added Prudhomme. &#8220;It reminds me of how drag racing used to be back in the day when we would drive our cars to the drag strip, race them, and drive them home at the end of the day. That&#8217;s maybe the neatest thing about this car.&#8221;</p>
